History

The Cabell-Huntington Coalition for the Homeless, Harmony House’s parent company, grew as a result of the Mayor’s Task Force on the Homeless in 1986 and 1987 to both coordinate and improve programs serving homeless people. The original Task Force included approximately 60 representatives of agencies, churches and community members who met intensively for four months to develop a set of recommendations to improve existing services and develop new solutions to homelessness. In August 1987, the group was incorporated, and a volunteer Board of Directors was formed.

More than 30 years later, Harmony House has served thousands of homeless individuals and families by providing one-stop access to a variety of helpful services. Individuals have obtained housing, employment, mainstream resources and hope. We are striving to serve thousands more in the years ahead.
